No Studying Necessary for this “Final Exam!” High School and College Seniors Gear Up for COVID Testing to Attend Proms and Graduations

Graduations and Proms throughout the U.S. were cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A year later, in many parts of the country, the class of 2021 will be able to celebrate these milestones in person, but with strict adherence to all Department of Health guidelines.

According to the state of New York, “all events, arts and entertainment venues can reopen at 33 percent capacity, up to 100 people indoors and up to 200 people outdoors. If all attendees present proof of a negative test prior to entry, capacity can increase up to 150 people indoors and up to 500 people outdoors.”

Guidelines for proms, graduations and other events all require that:

  • Regular COVID-19 health and safety protocols should be strictly enforced to ensure that the event is held in a safe environment.
  • Mandatory COVID-19 testing in advance of proms and graduations, and temperature checks right before entering the venue will be required.
  • Proof of a negative COVID result within 72 hours of the event or proof of an antigen test performed within six hours of the event will be needed.
  • Anyone attending needs to provide contact tracing information.
  • As per CDC guidelines, there can be a DJ and appropriate social distancing dancing will be permitted.
  • Dancers need to stay in “designated and clearly marked areas or zones on the dance floor at least 6 feet away from other dancers.”
  • On-site COVID testing at events is recommended to provide complete assurance, convenience, and reliability that all prom and graduation attendees are negative before entering the venue.
